Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile demands apology from Inquirer for tagging him as pork barrel scam mastermind
So, obviously, it’s not his favorite newspaper.
GMA News Online reports that Senator Juan Ponce Enrile is demanding a public apology from the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) for running a supposedly "false report" identifying him as the mastermind of the alleged P10-billion pork barrel scam instead of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.
According to the report, the senator issued a statement on Thursday (November 21) saying the PDI's report tagging him as the brains behind the scam is "merely the latest and most outrageous of a series of supposed leaks... clearly intended to malign and defame him." In its report, PDI quoted Assistant Ombudsman Joselito Fangon as saying in a memorandum addressed to Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales that "all facts point to Senator Enrile as the unseen hand directing the compass and the tempo of the whole orchestra."
In addition to the demand for PDI to apologize, Enrile said he wants the Office of the Ombudsman "to investigate and discipline all those involved in the leak of an inexistent report." Morales, however, has denied the existence of the eight-page memorandum reportedly submitted to her office.
