Rachelle Ann Go snags a role in Miss Saigon revival
She’s not playing Kim, but she’ll probably have fun with her more worldly character.
ABS-CBNNews.com (citing BroadwayWorld.com) reports: "Singer Rachelle Ann Go has landed a role in the West End revival of Miss Saigon. She’s playing the hardened bar girl Gigi, which was originally portrayed by fellow Filipina Isay Alvarez."
Filipino Jonjon Briones will take on the role of the Engineer. Filipino-American Eva Noblezada, 17, is playing Kim.
The report noted: "The Miss Saigon revival, directed by Laurence Connor, will open at the Prince Edward Theatre in London on May 3, 2014." The musical also marks its 25th anniversary next year. It features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil.
When the musical premiered in 1989, Kim was played by Lea Salonga. She won the Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award for playing the Saigon miss.
