Police warn public vs. "baby snatchers" in Marikina

Two babies have been taken in a week.

Non Alquitran of The Philippine Star reports: "Two newborn babies were kidnapped in Marikina City over the past week, prompting police officials to warn the public yesterday against baby snatchers operating in the metropolis."

The report revealed that Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Superintendent Miguel Laurel has "ordered a manhunt for the kidnappers as he urged residents of Marikina City to be vigilant while tending to their babies."

The report cited the case of Purok 7, Barangay Malanday resident Rachel Balaro, a mother whose one-month-old baby was taken from their home over the weekened. Then, there was the case of a woman named Jovelyn, who, on November 28, had been bringing home her newborn daughter from the lying-in clinic where she had given birth when an armed man and his companion took the baby from her.
