MMDA temporarily bans fun runs along major roads starting December 16 to reduce traffic jams
We hope this helps.
Jamie Marie Elona of Inquirer.net reports that the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will temporarily ban the holding of marathons, fun runs and similar events beginning December 16 until January 6, 2014 to ease the traffic congestion in the metropolis this holiday season.
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said the ban on fun runs will start on the same day that Simbang Gabi will begin since more vehicles are seen to be out on the streets for the nightly masses and other Christmas-related gatherings. He added that starting December 13, the agency will also implement a moratorium on "all excavations or diggings in all national and city roads until midnight of January 6, 2014" to prevent the buildup of traffic jams.
Tolentino said the MMDA "is expecting a 20 percent increase in the traffic volume this Christmas season due to the influx of people and vehicles from Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Central Luzon."
