Promoter calls Pacquiao-Rios bout in Macau "a flop" due to poor pay-per-view sales
At least Pacquiao showed he can still win.
ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer has called the boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios in Macau "a flop" due to the poor pay-per-view sales generated by the fight.
The report, which was based on Schaefer's interview with Boxing Scene, quoted the promoter as saying that it is unlikely for Pacquiao's camp to decide on holding his next fight in China again after pay-per-view sales turned out to be weak. "I bet you that Pacquiao will never again fight in China. You know why? Because it was a flop," Schaefer said.
According to Golden Boy's sources, Pacquiao's fight with Rios generated only 300,000 to 350,000 pay-per-view buys. In contrast, his December 2012 fight against Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez generated more than one million PPV buys.
