Vice President Jejomar Binay off to South Africa as P-Noy’s representative in Nelson Mandela’s funeral
He’ll bring the condolence letter from President Benigno Aquino III.
SunStar.com.ph reports that "Vice President Jejomar Binay left on Monday night (December 9) for South Africa to attend the state funeral for the late global democracy icon Nelson Mandela and extend the Philippines’ condolences to his family." He took a 7:55 p.m. Cathay Pacific Airways flight.
An ABS-CBNnews.com report revealed that the airlies "initially refused to allow him to check in due to his failure to present a return ticket, which is a requirement for all passengers bound for another country." Binay’s staff immediately purchased the said return ticket.
The report noted that Binay "will bring the condolence letter from President Benigno Aquino III."
The report went on to reveal that Mandela, who died at 95 on December 5, "will be buried next Sunday in Qunu, his hometown some 550 miles from Johannesburg."
