Canada’s Liberal Party steps up claim on North Pole, says Santa Claus is a Canadian citizen
Yes, this is for real.
Agence France-Presse (via InterAksyon.com) reports that Canada has stepped up its claim on the North Pole by declaring this week that Santa Claus is a Canadian citizen.
According to the report, Paul Calandra, parliamentary secretary to the prime minister, insisted the North Pole is part of Canada's territory to bash an opposition party in Parliament. Calandra's claim was seconded by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, who reminded members of the parliament that Canada Post has a postal code assigned to the fictional character-- H0H 0H0.
Members of the Liberal Party of Canada exchanged heated words with the opposing New Democratic Party "after Canada signaled its intentions to claim the North Pole and surrounding Arctic waters while announcing Monday (December 9) the filing of a UN application seeking to vastly expand its Atlantic sea boundary."
