Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada moved by "compassion" to visit ex-president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at VMMC
Christmas is the season to let bygones be bygones...but it shouldn’t apply to plunder cases.
Ira Pedrasa of ABS-CBNnews.com reports that out of "compassion," Manila mayor Joseph Estrada returned to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) on Sunday (December 22) to visit former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the person who replaced him as Chief Executive after he was ousted during People Power 2 in 2001.
The report quoted Estrada as saying: "After all the disasters happening around the country, this Christmas is about compassion. So I decided to also extend some compassion to GMA. Naawa ako (I pity her)." For his part, Arroyo's lawyer said her family "is truly grateful" for the concern shown by Estrada for her.
Atty. Ferdinand Topacio said Estrada's "magnanimous gesture" is evidence that he knows how to repay the kindness extended to him by Arroyo when he was the one under hospital arrest at VMMC for plunder charges during her term as president.
