Ad agency BBDO Guerrero denies latest Pantene ad is copycat of Glee video
It says any similarity between the two videos is just a coincidence.
ABS-CBNnews.com reports that local advertising agency BBDO Guerrero has denied rumors that it copied the concept for Pantene's "Labels against women" commercial from a Glee Project video featuring the same song (check out the Glee video embedded below), "Mad World."
The report explained that in a statement sent to ABS-CBNnews.com, BBDO Guerrero managing director Francine Kahn-Gonzalez clarified that the agency "had no knowledge of the 'Glee Project' video prior to production and distribution of our work for Pantene." Kahn-Gonzales said any similarity between the two videos are purely coincidental.
The advertising agency issued the statement days after some netizens "noticed several similarities between the 'Mad World' video of 'Glee Project' and Pantene Philippines' 'Labels' commercial, which both tackle stereotypes." Some pointed out that the shampoo commercial might be a copycat of the Glee video since both used the same musical arrangement of the Tears for Fears song originally released in the ’80s.
Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg has lauded the one-minute clip on her Facebook page, calling it "one of the most powerful videos I have ever seen."
