Garcia of ABS-CBNnews.com reports that as of 6 a.m. January 1, 2014, the Department of Health had counted "599 people injured due to firecrackers and fireworks during the New Year’s Day revelry in the country, a 43% increase from year-ago figures." The figure is culled from 50 hospitals nationwide.

DOH spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag revealed that the common culprit in firecracker mishaps is the piccolo.
