BIR tax case vs. Manny Pacquiao still on despite friendly shooting session with tax chief Kim Henares
They reportedly didn’t even mention the case during the match.
GMA News Online reports that "the government will still pursue the tax case against boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao despite a recent sports activity in Malacañang where President Benigno Aquino III had Pacquiao partnered with Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares."
According to the report, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) head Herminio Coloma Jr. said on television that Aquino's decision to pair Pacquiao with Henares in a shootfest last month will not affect the Bureau of Internal Revenue's legal battle with the boxer due to his alleged failure to pay taxes from his fights in the United States from 2008 to 2009.
The Pacquiao-Henares tandem in the shootfest, which was held on December 21, was reported by the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Jan. 1, 2014. Interviewed by GMA News, Henares said she and Pacquiao did not talk about the tax case throughout what she described as a "friendly game."
