We’re multiplying fast!
Shiela Crisostomo of The Philippine Star reports that the population of the Philippines is expected to reach the 100 million mark in the third or fourth quarter of 2014, according to the Commission on Population (PopCom).
The report noted that "in 2013, the National Statistical Coordination Board estimated the country's population to be around 97.35 million." PopCom executive director Juan Antonio Perez III said that the government would have to work towards having "more investments in social services such as health and education, and infrastructure" in order to support the country's growing population.
Based on PopCom's data, the Philippines' population growth rate is now around two percent while an average of 3.1 children is born per woman.
