LTFRB says Uber taxi app developers need clearance first before doing business in PH

We’re hoping this gets settled soon.

Jose Bimbo Santos of reports that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has advised the developers behind the US-based transport service company Uber to secure clearance from its office first before offering their services to Filipino commuters.

According to the report, the LTFRB has not yet been approached by Uber for clearance application since the company announced its arrival in the country through a blog post. LTFRB chair Winston Ginez said Uber will have to apply for a clearance if it intends to use vehicles for public transportation services.

Uber markets itself as a company that lets users hail posh black vehicles for their convenience through a smartphone app. "(W)ith Uber's arrival, you can request a nice and classy car at the push of a button, anytime, anywhere," the company said.
