BIR publishes list of lechon and taxes, incurs ire of Zubuchon
The taxmen have turned to SPOT.ph to look into lechons.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on January 8 released an online infographic involving "Top Lechon Places" in an effort to "inform" the public of pork-related taxes. A Philippine Daily Inquirer report clarified that this is not a list of tax evaders and the "tax watch" is the BIR’s way of informing businesses that they are watching. SPOT.ph’s Top 10 Lechon in Metro Manila, along with lists by InterAksyon and ChoosePhilippines, were used to identify establishments that are worth looking into.
MarketManila.com, which brought Zubuchon to Manila from Cebu pointed out that the lists that the BIR used are based on taste rather than income, and that the "shame campaign" overlooks all the other forms of tax that they pay.
SPOT.ph Top 10 lists are based on the taste and quality of the dish being sampled, regardless of how much money the restaurants that serve them make. The Top 10 lists are NOT done in collaboration with any establishments and the writers receive no compensation from the owners.
