PNP hires security guards for Camp Crame so it can deploy more cops to the streets

How...ironic.

Marlon Ramos of the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that "the Philippine National Police  has allocated P21 million to hire the services of security guards to man the gates and offices of Camp Crame, its national headquarters located at Quezon City."

The report explained that the move was made in line with the decision "to deploy PNP personnel doing nonsecurity-related jobs-such as those posted at Camp Crame gates-to regular police units" in order to boost police visibility on the streets.

Police officials said the PNP will also be able to save money by hiring security guards since "a PNP employee with a rank of Police Officer 1 receives around P18,000 just to perform guard duties." There are currently around 100 members of the Headquarters Support Unit (HSS) who are tasked to secure the three main gates of the PNP's sprawling national headquarters.
