Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte slams Commission on Human Rights chief for telling him it’s unethical to threaten shooting rice smugglers
He says he’s ready to go to jail for killing them, anyway.
Edith Regalado of The Philippine Star reports that Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte has advised Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Loretta Ann "Etta" Rosales to stop talking about ethical ways to solve the rice smuggling problem in the country since the government is already losing a lot of money because of them.
According to the report, Rosales earlier criticized Duterte for being unethical after he publicly vowed to shoot traders who are proven to be smuggling rice into Davao City. Asked for his reaction to the CHR chief's statement, mayor said: "What ethics are you talking about? Go tell that to the smugglers. Tell the smugglers they are unethical for causing the government to lose billions in taxes."
The feisty Duterte, who's known for his tough stance against criminals in Davao City, said he's ready to go to jail for killing rice smugglers "for as long as the interest of local farmers is protected."
