PhilPost and Bureau of Customs blame each other for undelivered parcels, Christmas gifts

The public waits while they continue bickering.

Likha Cuevas-Miel of reports that several parcels, including eBay and Amazon shipments that should have been delivered during Christmas season, are still stuck at the government clearing house due to an ongoing dispute between the Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

The report explained that the backlog has piled up due to the BOC's supposed failure to inspect the parcels delivered to the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City before their dispatch. According to Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz, "the standard operating procedure during during the 'ber' months leading to the Christmas holiday season was 'hampered' by the lack of Customs examiners" who would inspect the packages.

While BOC admitted that it lacks manpower to go through all the parcels still stored at the CMEC, it said PhilPost is also at fault in the situation because it has not yet delivered packages that were already cleared by Customs inspectors.
