The search is on for a new coach.
Inquirer.net reports that the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has terminated the contract of German coach Michael Weiss, who has been helping the Azkals train for the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup in the Maldives in May.
According to the report, Weiss was given the so-called pink slip after the PFF decided on reorganizing the national football team's coaching staff. The German coach "took over in January 2011 and piloted the Azkals to a return appearance to the AFF Suzuki Cup semifinals and a third-place finish in the AFC Challenge Cup two years ago."
Azkals manager Dan Palami said the PFF is currently searching for a new coach for the Azkals. He said some of the shortlisted candidates for the position are "based in Spain, Britain, United States, Hong Kong, Germany and Montenegro.
