Palace appeals to hackers not to deface Open Data website
Will hackers listen?
Kimberly Jane Tan of GMA News Online reports that Malacañang has asked hackers not to attempt defacing its flagship Open Data Philippines website, saying that doing so will be a "disservice to the public."
The report noted that while the government has put security measures in place to protect the website, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda still appealed to hackers to spare the online portal-a publicly-accessible repository of government data-from being hacked.
Last November, hackers from the Anonymous group defaced a number of government websites in protest against the government’s failure to confront important political issues. The hacks were also done supposedly to "highlight the apparent inadequacy of the government’s cybersecurity defenses."
