Brokeback Mountain, the opera, set for world premiere in Madrid

It’s just one of those stories that you can’t quit.

Elodie Cuzin of Agence France-Presse (via reports that "Brokeback Mountain, the Oscar-winning epic about the relationship between two cowboys in the American West, is coming to the stage as an opera, with a world premiere on January 28 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Spain."


The report noted: "The story was brought to the screen in 2005 and is based on the 1997 short story of the same name by Annie Proulx. The opera was commissioned six years ago."


The report revealed that American composer Charles Wuorinen, 75, worked closely with Proulx to flesh out the opera.
