SM Megamall reopens skating rink, now located at 5th floor of Building D
After seven years of absence, it’s back!
Doris Dumlao of the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that "the group of tycoon Henry Sy is set to introduce speed skating as the latest winter sport in town to mark the return of the ice skating rink to SM Megamall, the SM group's highest-grossing shopping mall, after a seven-year absence." The SM Megamall skating rink, which hasn’t been around in the last seven years, is now located at the 5th floor of the mall’s Building D.
The report also explained that the SM group will soon be launching a form of speed skating called "short-track speed skating" which is done "on a regular Olympic size rink measuring 30 x 60 meters." At present, the form of speed skating familiar to Filipinos is long track skating, "which is set on an Olympic track oval as big as a football field." SM Megamall used to have a skating rink since 1992, but its operations were shut down in 2006 after bigger track was built in the SM Mall of Asia (MOA).
The rates for the state-of-the-art skating rink in SM Megamall are "P300 on weekdays and P390 on weekends covering unlimited daily use."
