J.K. Rowling thinks making Hermione end up with Ron was a "mistake," says it should’ve been Harry instead
Geeks, how do you feel about this?
Agence France Presse (via the Manila Bulletin) reports that British author J.K. Rowling has revealed in an interview with Wonderland magazine that she regrets pairing Hermione Granger, a main character in the "Harry Potter" series, to the famous boy wizard's best friend, Ron Weasley.
The report, which was based on comments published by the Sunday Times newspaper, quoted Rowling as saying that Hermione "would have been better off" marrying Harry instead of Ron. "For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron," Rowling said.
Although Rowling said she hoped she did not break her fans' hearts with the revelation, she said distance has given her perspective on the impact of a Hermione-Ron relationship. She surmised that the couple "would likely have ended up in marriage counselling" some years after tying the knot.
Interestingly, Rowling revealed the shocker to none other than actress Emma Watson, who interviewed the author for the magazine feature. Watson has portrayed the role of Hermione in all eight "Harry Potter" films.
