Palace spokesperson defends P-Noy’s cigarette habit, says he can’t be impeached for smoking
He’s apparently a law-abiding smoker.
Genalyn Kabiling of the Manila Bulletin reports that President Benigno S. Aquino III is unlikely to be impeached for his smoking habit since he follows the smoking ban implemented in government offices and other public areas, said his spokesperson on Tuesday (February 4).
The report quoted Presidential Communications Herminio Coloma Jr. as saying that the President has followed all the laws restricting his smoking to certain private spaces only and not in public areas or functions. He said Aquino does not smoke inside Palace grounds ever since he became President.
Coloma defended Aquino's smoking habit once again "after a Civil Service Commission (CSC) official warned that Aquino's smoking in government premises could be a ground for impeachment."
The report noted that CSC Assistant Commissioner Ariel Ronquillo allegedly claimed that Aquino violates the prohibition against smoking in government buildings.
