New Zealand surfer escapes from shark by punching its face
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Agence France Presse (via InterAksyon.com) reports that a 28-year-old surfer from New Zealand who was suddenly attacked by a shark at a local beach managed to free himself from the animal's jaws by punching it in the face.
The report, which was based on accounts published in New Zealand media, said the victim "was about 50 meters off shore at Porpoise Bay when the shark seized his leg, leaving three bite wounds from his thigh to his calf." A fellow surfer who witnessed the incident said the man "struggled for a bit and then punched the shark and it let him go."
The witness said the victim was able to make his own way to the shore and even managed to stay coherent while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
