MMDA suspends road repairs on Friday in anticipation of Valentine's Day traffic
With Valentine’s Day coinciding with payday Friday, traffic is already expected to be horrible.
Anna Liza Villas-Alavaren of the Manila Bulletin reports that the the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will not undertake road reblocking operations along EDSA and other major roads in the metropolis starting this Friday (February 14) up to Monday (February 16.)
The report explained that road repairs will be temporarily suspended since the MMDA has put off granting permits to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and its contractors "in anticipation of the traffic gridlock on Valentine's Day." The DPWH has to get clearance from the MMDA before starting any road re-blocking projects in the metropolis.
The suspension of road works is also seen to alleviate traffic congestion on Saturday (February 15), when several roads are expected to be congested due to the "Worldwide Walk" that the Iglesia ni Cristo will be holding in Manila.
