Global survey: Pinoy Catholics "most loyal" to Church teachings, but not big fans of Pope Francis
Tricia Aquino of InterAksyon.com reports that a recent global survey has revealed that "Filipino Catholics support Church teachings on abortion, divorce, same-sex marriage, and priesthood, but are opposed to its anti-contraception stance."
According to the report, the survey found out that "Filipinos are among the world's most loyal to the doctrines of the Church, ranking highest in their support for the prohibition on marriage for priests and the disallowance of abortion in all cases." The poll, which was conducted by Bendixen & Amandi International for the US-based Univision of Catholics, had 12,036 respondents in 12 countries.
Despite their strict adherence to the teachings of the Catholic Church, Filipinos were apparently not big fans of Pope Francis, "with only 18 percent saying he did an excellent job since he was elected in March last year." Italians, meanwhile, ranked the highest in their approval of the pontiff, with 74 percent saying he did an excellent job.
