Palace claims e-mail sent by figure skater Michael Christian Martinez’s mom probably went to spam folder
Will all our emails to Malacañang suffer a similar spam-my fate?
Louis Bacani of Philstar.com reports that a Malacañang spokesperson has explained the Palace's failure to receive the e-mail sent by the mother of Olympic figure skater Michael Martinez last year by saying the message probably landed in the "spam" folder.
The report quoted Presidential Communications Operations Office Sec. Herminio Coloma Jr. as saying in a press briefing that Palace staff members did not read any message coming from Mrs. Martinez even though they check the e-mail address of the Office of the President everyday. The skater's mother said she sent an e-mail to Malacañang on October 27, 2013 "requesting direction on how she could inform President Aquino of Michael's qualification in the 2014 Winter Olympics and their dire need of government financial support."
Coloma said that if the email were received, an acknowledgment would have been sent to Mrs. Martinez as part of the standard procedure. He added that by protocol, Malacañang employees "will no longer go over the spam emails since these have implications to the security of the President’s website."
Michael Christian Martinez gained recognition as the first figure skater from a Southeast Asian country to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
