DOTC eyes either Cavite or Laguna as possible site of new international airport

Are they serious?

Darwin Amojelar of reports that the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) is currently considering building the new international airport at either Sangley Point in Cavite or an area somewhere near the Laguna de Bay.


According to the report, "the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which DOTC tapped to look for an alternative to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), proposed the two locations." Transport Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya told reporters last week that Sangley is being considered because its parameter is only 20 minutes away from NAIA.


Last year, the DOTC proposed the construction of "a new international airport that would be 25-30 minutes away from NAIA" to President Benigno Aquino III since the country's main international airport is slated to reach its full capacity as early as 2018.
