17-year-old boy resents grandmother for interrupting his DOTA session, bashes her to death using flower vases
Will he be charged as an adult? If not, he’ll get away with this.
Reinir Padua of The Philippine Star reports that last week a 17-year-old boy who got scolded for spending too much time playing the popular computer game Defense Of The Ancients (DOTA) beat to death his own grandmother.
On Friday, March 7, the boy had reportedly been playing DOTA at a computer shop in their Quezon City neighborhood (Barangay Batasan Hills) when his 68-year-old grandmother came to fetch him at around 6 p.m. Then, when they arrived home, she scolded him. The boy then told police he blacked out and the next thing he knew, he was already cleaning the evidence of the crime he committed. At 10 p.m., the boy then went to his aunt, who lives in Pantranco, and told her what had happened. It was she who reported the matter to the authorities.
Police later found bloody ceramic shards of shattered flower vases in the house. They determined that the vases were used by the boy to hit his grandmother’s head, neck, and chest. She died from the injuries. She had been raising the boy on her own, as his parents had separated and had gone on to remarry and have other kids.
