PH running out of hairdressers and barbers, survey shows
It’s a hair-raising dilemma.
Mayen Jaymalin of The Philippine Star reports that the Philippines is facing a shortage of barbers, hairdressers and beauticians, based on the latest survey conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on the hard-to-fill occupations in the country.
The report noted that aside from a scarcity of hairdressers, employers are also having difficulty hiring professionals such as engineers and accountants. The survey, which involved over 7,000 business establishments, also showed that "more than half of the hard-to-fill occupations involved clerical jobs such as call center agents."
Some of the reasons cited by employers for their difficulty in filling up the vacancies involve "a few number of applicants, lack of experience among applicants and the applicants' expectation of high salaries."
