PH government to sign historic peace deal with MILF

Let’s hope this works.

ABS-CBNnews.com reports that the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) are set to sign a historic peace agreement on Thursday (March 27) after 17 years of negotiations.

The report noted that several high-profile guests, including Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, will witness the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro in Malacañang. "Once signed, the deal will pave the way for the Bangsamoro Transition Commission to finalize a draft of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law," which will then be submitted to Congress.

The peace pact contains the framework agreement signed in 2012, and separate annexes on power sharing, normalization, wealth sharing and revenue generation, and transitional arrangements and modalities. The implementation of the Bangsamoro Basic Law is seen "to end one of Asia’s longest and deadliest insurgencies."
