Manny Villar may run for president in 2016
If you can afford a second try, then, by all means, go for it.
Is ex-senator Manny Villar running again for president in 2016? His wife, lawmaker Cynthia Villar, says he's open to the possibility of throwing his hat into the presidential race for the second time.
Maila Ager of Inquirer.net reports that Mrs. Villar has stated that her husband believes "the presidency might be destined for him after 2010." Mr. Villar, the president of Nacionalista Party, made a bid for the presidency four years ago but lost to now-President Benigno Aquino III.
In an interview on Thursday (March 27), Sen. Villar quoted her husband as saying that he might accept the challenge of becoming NP's standard bearer in the next presidential polls if it were offered to him. She noted, however, that Mr. Villar "welcomed other NP members who also want to make themselves available for the highest position in the land."
She said the party has not yet discussed its political strategy for 2016 because it is still too early for its leaders to decide on the matter at the moment.
