PH sets new Guinness Record for playing basketball game non-stop for 5 days
The players had substitutes but they weren’t allowed to leave the court before the final buzzer.
Reuters reports (via ABS-CBNNews.com) that the Philippines set a new world record playing the longest game of basketball on Saturday (March 29) after athletes in a charity match shot hoops non-stop for five straight days.
The report explained that "the two teams, each with 12 players, set the new record at 120 hours, one minute and seven seconds." The previous record was held by the Missouri Athletics Club in the United States, which clocked in 112 hours and 13 seconds.
Based on the rules laid down by Guinness, "each team in Manila had to have 10 players on the court at all time [and they] could not leave the court and could only rest on the bleachers alongside the court during periods of substitution."
The coaches advised the athletes to work on a two-hour rotation so they can maximize their time on court without compromising their endurance.
