Sallan of InterAksyon.com reports: "Way back in 1982, a man named Weng Weng walked the red carpet at the Cannes International Film Festival to promote his Agent 00 films (specifically, For Your Height Only). Then at the peak of his popularity, the diminutive star was accompanied by producers Pete and Cora Caballes of Liliw Productions." ("Agent 00" was meant to be a spoof on James Bond, who is tagged as "007.")
Weng Weng (real name: Ernesto de la Cruz) was the star of movies like Agent 00, For Your Height Only, The Impossible Kid, D’Wild Wild Weng, and many more.
Weng Weng stood at 2’9." He died in 1992 at the age of 34.
Just as Weng Weng’s movie had been shown in Cannes 32 years ago, the documentary by Australian filmmaker Andrew Leavold, The Search for Weng Weng, is one of the featured films in the Cannes Film Festival this year.
