Tax trouble? Dillingers 1903 shut down by BIR

Care to find out how much it allegedly owes?

This message was posted on the Dillingers Facebook page just as reports broke out that the BIR had shut it down.

Dillingers 1903 Steak & Brew-which is located at Greenbelt 3 in Ayala Center, Makati-has been temporarily shut down by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) due to alleged tax violations.

In a statement, the BIR said it was going after Dillingers’ operator, Timeless Bar and Restaurant Concepts, for "acts and omissions constituting violations of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997."

An report noted that the Dillingers operator also manages Bugsy’s and Prohibition Liquor Lounge. It didn’t say if these two other spots were affected by the tax issue.

According to the same report, "Dillingers is the first restaurant that the BIR has padlocked in the Greenbelt area."

The story also said that "the upscale bar is reportedly owned by scions of well-known politicians in the country," but the report didn’t give names.

However, a Manila Bulletin Online report claimed: "Makati BIR officials said the bar is allegedly operated by the children of Ilocos Norte Rep. Rudy Farinas and former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson."

The Manila Bulletin Online report also revealed: "BIR-Makati regional director Jonas Amora said Dillingers 1903 will remain closed until its owners settle the P15 million deficiency in its income and value-added taxes."
