And the ailments appear: Group of ex-detainees call out special treatment for Gigi Reyes
Just another day in the office, er, hospital.
Whether it’s another case of detainee who cried wolf or not, people are not happy. Rhodina Villanueva of The Philippine Star reported that Gigi Reyes remained confined in a hospital on Saturday for hypertension and panic attacks. Naturally, this raised plenty of eyebrows, including a group of ex-detainees.
Roneo Clamor, spokesperson for the Samahan ng mga Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA), said, "Whether her sickness was real or imagined, Gigi Reyes’ swift hospitalization without the need for a court order is another showcase of the governments soft spot for those accused of plunder."
"If such ailments were the bases for Reyes hospitalization, then the 50 other ailing political prisoners should be accorded the same," continued Clamor. "Most of them are elderly. Based on our experience, it takes at least a month for the court to process our motion for medical checkup."
Reyes is currently at the intensive care unit of the Philippine Heart Center, supposedly due to chest pains.
