P-Noy signs law requiring graphic health warnings on cigarette packs
Expect some exciting new photos on your pack of cigarettes.
The Philippine Star reported that President Benigno Aquino III has signed into law R.A. 10643, or "An Act to Effectively Instill Health Consciousness through Graphic Health Warnings on Tobacco Products."
The new law requires cigarette manufacturers to dedicate half of a cigarette pack’s display area to pictures illustrating the ill-effects of smoking. It also states that graphic health warnings should appear on the lower portion of the front and back panels of the cigarette packs.
The measure intends to scare smokers and would-be smokers from purchasing cigarettes.
P-Noy also enacted four other measures, including one that allows the full entry of foreign banks and another that hopes to strengthen drug laws.
