Baby girl "Chonalyn" is the Philippines’ symbolic 100 millionth baby
You can’t go more Pinoy than "Chonalyn"
In the early hours of Sunday, July 27, Chonalyn Sentino was born and officially became the country’s 100 millionth baby. But Chonalyn is not alone in this historic milestone.
"The Commission on Population is today looking at the 100 babies, to be recognized in 100 communities, 19 cities and 81 provinces, who were born at 12:06 this morning or closest to that time," POPCOM Executive Director Dr. Juan Antonio A. Perez III said.
Aside from a celebratory cake and becoming an Internet celebrity, baby Chonalyn and the rest of the "100 millionth babies" will be provided with support to give them a good start. This includes a starter kit containing basic infant needs worth P5,000 and she willl also receive a complete and expanded immunization program. Health officials even promised to keep an eye on Chonalyn’s growth and to visit the baby once a year.
Chonalyn is the first child of the 27-year old Dailin, who formerly worked as house help, and her 45-year old partner, Clemente Sentino, Jr, who is a driver.
With the Philippines hitting 100 million, we’re slowly inching our way up the list of the most populated countries. We’re currently ranked 12, right behind Mexico, which has a population of 119 million.
