People are still talking about Nancy Binay’s dress
The dress can’t be that bad if it made her look like Bellossom. Bellossom is cute.
In a report by Leila B. Salaverria from the Lifestyle section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Wednesday (July 30), Senator Nancy Binay said that her Filipiniana-Hanbok number designed by Randy Ortiz was a statement of support for the local textile industry.
In a phone interview with the PDI writer, Senator Binay noted that Thai fabric is gaining popularity in the international fashion scene and she felt that our local textiles could be just as popular. She also said that "in fairness," Senators commissioning gowns generates livelihood for designers and weavers. In reference to various viral memes that the dress spawned, a Facebook user commented, "You can promote local fabrics without making yourself look like a hot air balloon."
There are odder things on the red carpet worn by high fashion models, but as Senator Binay herself said, "In a way, that's a bit awkward because we're not models."
Take a tip from Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago: Keep it simple.
