Scrabble adds 5,000 new playable words, including "hashtag" and "bromance"
Maybe you’ll finally land that elusive triple word score.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer has great news for Scrabble fanatics, especially people who can’t nail more than four letters and score more than 10 points. The popular word game is adding 5,000 new additional words to its roster of 100,000 available words.
New entries feature some familiar words to kids these days, such as texter, vlog, bromance, hashtag, dubstep, chillax, frenemy, and selfie. They’re also adding more two-letter words like "te" and "da" for that annoying moment you’re running out of tiles.
Another highlight is the word "qajaq", which requires a blank title because Scrabble sets include just one Q. It’s also a rare word that starts with Q and doesn’t need a U. Best of all, it’s a palindrome but sadly doesn’t count as additional points in the game.
The last time the list of words were updated was a decade ago. The fifth edition of The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary is out August 11.
