Drilon denies Binay rumors, expresses support for Roxas
President Palengke 2016
Inquirer.net reported on Wednesday (August 6) that the Liberal Party is still open to supporting a Presidential Campaign for DILG Secretary Mar Roxas in 2016.
Senate President and LP’s vice-chair Franklin Drilon said that, "If Secretary Mar makes public his desire to run for president, the Liberal Party will support him and I assume the President will support him."
Drilon also shot down rumors that the LP was looking to adopt Vice President Jejomar Binay as their presidential candidate, attributing the buzz to certain "spin masters."
"All I can say is that the spin masters are having their day. There is no such thing. I am a member of the executive committee of the Liberal Party, and there has been no discussion on that," he said in an earlier interview with ANC's Headstart.
In 2010, Roxas gave up his campaign for the presidency to give way to then Senator Benigno Aquino III, whose ratings soared after his mother, former President Corazon Aquino, passed away.
