Jovito Palparan detained in NBI head office, security remains tight
What if the NBI treated him the way he treated his detainees?
Reports that former Major General Jovito Palparan has been captured circulated on Tuesday (August 12), and in a report published by GMA News on Wednesday (August 13), his detention at the National Bureau of Investigation’s head office in Manila has been confirmed.
Palaparan was captured in Teresa Street, Sta. Mesa, Manila City. His hideout is said to be near the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, a campus known for strong activism. Palparan is facing two counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges for the alleged abduction of two students from the University of the Philippines, Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño.
In interview with Kara David in News to Go, Palparan explained that he felt that he wasn’t safe in the hands of the authority and insisted that the threat on his life is real. He also proclaimed that he is not guilty and he believes that a fair trial will prove his innocence.
This, strangely enough, did not stop Palparan from claiming that he knows-through three years of research without directly placing them under investigation-that Cadapan and Empeño are members of the New People’s Army and not real UP students. He reiterated that he had nothing to do with their disappearance towards the end of the interview and said that he can win the case, even without a lawyer.
