Bill proposing a Philippine Cinema Appreciation class for high school filed
How does film showing Fridays sound?
Hooray for Philippine cinema! GMANetwork.com reported that Kabataan party-list Representative Terry Ridon on Saturday announced that he has filed a bill to include in the high school curriculum a mandatory subject of Philippine cinema appreciation.
Â
House Bill 4756 or the Philippine Cinema Appreciation Act for High School Students Bill seeks to raise the Filipino youth’s awareness and appreciation of Philippine cinema.
Â
"A genuine national policy on the promotion of Filipino cultural heritage cannot therefore exist without the inclusion of Philippine cinema development and appreciation as an integral part thereof," said Ridon.
Â
Ridon said films should be treated the same as Philippine literature, and should be given the opportunity to be appreciated by the youth as a means to promote and preserve Filipino cultural heritage and history.
