Dutertes call out Ramon Bautista on "hipon" joke
It caused an allergic reaction
Pop culture personality Ramon Bautista’s jokes usually sell like fresh donuts, but Davao City’s Duterte family weren’t laughing when he made a joke on stage on Saturday (August 16). Bautista dropped by a rave party during the Kadayawan Festival where he remarked to the crowd, "Ang daming hipon dito sa Davao." He then led the people in chanting hipon. Hipon or shrimp is a colloquial term for a person who is only attractive from the neck down.
Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, who was present at the party, later reprimanded Bautista which prompted the comedian to return onstage and apologize. "I'm here in front of you to say my apologies because sinabi ko maraming hipon dito. Nahihiya po ako sa inyo kasi you welcomed me here in your beautiful city," said Bautista.
The vice mayor wasn’t the only Duterte who took offense to the joke. Former Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte took to her Facebook account to express her annoyance.
She urged city councilors on her friend’s list to ban Bautista in the city, saying, "Many councilors are my FB friends... If you do not call out this guy persona non grata, [you’re] doing a disservice to women all over!! P at F to you Ramon Bautista! Bisita ka lang, gumalang ka!"
