Derek Ramsay admits to a marriage and fathering a son
Ooh, plot twist.
InterAksyon.com reported on Wednesday (August 20) that Derek Ramsay admitted an earlier marriage to a Filipino-Indian model named Mary Christine Jolly in 2002 but was told then that the marriage was "not valid." Ramsay also confessed to fathering an 11-year-old boy from his marriage.
Jolly sued Ramsay late last month for violation of Republic Act 9262 (Violence Against Women and Their Children). He responded by filing a counter-affidavit at the Makati City Prosecutor's Office.
In his statement, Ramsay said Jolly's complaint-affidavit "is replete with deliberate lies and facts intended to be misleading and deceptive."
"There are only two things that are true: First, that Mary Christine Jolly and I were married in 2002, a marriage that I was then told, was not valid, for various reasons [...] Atty. Joji Alonso has subsequently explained to me that the information given me about the status of my marriage is erroneous and that a marriage unless annulled, remains to be valid," he said. "Second, that I have an 11-year-old son named Austin Gabriel Ramsay."
Ramsay added that he was only able to confirm his paternity three years ago and since then, had wanted to know him first and keep their relationship private.
Photos of Ramsay and Jolly’s 2002 marriage in Balagtas, Bulacan surfaced online following the lawsuit.
