In more Binay family news: "Senior citizen cakes are P300"

The latest news on the "cakeback" saga

Ganito kami sa Makati, or so they say. reported on Friday (August 22) that Makati’s local government denied that the cakes given to senior citizens on special occasions cost P1,000 each.

City Administrator Eleno Mendoza released a statement saying that the cakes were purchased at only P306.75 each and added that they have documents to prove it. He added, "The figure cited by Mr. Bondal is totally false. Our documents will prove that and we will submit these documents to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee."

Mendoza was referring to Atty. Renato Bondal, who filed a plunder complaint against the Binays. Bondal was present at the senate hearing on the issue on Wednesday (August 20), where claimed that these "Binay cakes" costs more than P1,000 each.

"Pansilaw ito sa lahat ng mga matatanda sa buong bansa, birthday cakes for senior citizens. Sa katunayan, wala kahit ni isang anino sa Makati ang nakakaalam kung magkakano ito," he said. The Makati City government gives the cakes to its senior citizens on their birthdays and also during silver wedding anniversaries of senior couples.
