VP Binay benefited from overpriced building says former Makati City Vice Mayor
Take cover, bombs are dropping
Former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado admitted that he benefitted from the controversial building constructed while he was in office, GMA News reported on Tuesday (August 26). Following this logic, Mercado noted that his friend, Vice President Jejomar Binay, also enjoyed some benefits from the project.
The structure in question is a P2.5-billion parking building that is purported to be overpriced by at least P1.3 billion. The Binays have denied these accusations, but during the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing, Mercado testified against his former partner, "Aamimin ko: Sa Phase 1 at Phase 2 nakinabang po ako. Kung ang vice mayor ay nakinabang, mas lalo na ang mayor. Kung ako ay nakinabang, imposibleng hindi nakinabang ang aking mayor."
Mercado claims that he has been with Binay from 1986 to 2010. The allegedly overpriced building was constructed in 2007, when Vice President Binay was still a mayor and Mayor Junjun Binay was still a councilor.
