GMA News reported today that President Benigno Aquino III’s deputy spokesperson, Undersecretary Abigail Valte, accepted the challenge for public officials to ride the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) during rush hour on Monday morning.
Valte, who wore casual clothes and sunglasses, took it a step further by also riding the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1.
According to her Twitter account, Valte rode the MRT line from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City. She lined up at the North Avenue station at 8:24 a.m. and managed to get onto a train over 40 minutes later. She reached her destination by 9:41 a.m.-more than an hour after she lined up.
Valte then transferred to the LRT Line 1, whose EDSA station connects to the MRT Taft station. She then disembarked at Central station in Manila.
"[I] appreciate all the commuters who bear with the service on a daily basis. We continue to ask for your understanding as we continue to push for improvements," she said in a Twitter post.
