China launches "Cellphone Lane"
...a lane dedicated to people who can’t be bothered to look up from their phones.
Hate that dude who walks slowly because he’s fiddling with his phone? The Chinese Government feels your pain...or at least, one city does. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday (September 15) that the city of Chongqing assigned a "Cellphone Lane" on its sidewalks last week.
White lettering mark the path ("Cellphones, walk in this lane at your own risk") next to the regular lane ("No cellphone"). According to the report, citizens reacted to the move with amusement and scorn. One was quoted saying, "Is the goal here to encourage still more people to use their cellphones while walking?"
