The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on Wednesday (October 1) about a mystery print ad placed for President Benigno Aquino III. The ad reads:
President Benigno Aquino is an honest man! P-Noy must now seek a second term in order to make sure that the country stays on course, on the right road, and headed for continued growth and reform. We must maintain the momentum and continuity!
A certain Grace Pascual placed the ads that were seeking to encourage P-Noy to run for a second term by compiling eight million signatures from supporters. The paid advertisements appeared in several newspapers and Inquirer noted that the full-page ad they ran costs P200,000.
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma told the press that the Palace was not behind the ads and DILG Mar Roxas also cleared himself from any ties with the advertisement. Pascual herself did not comment on Malacañang’s involvement, but pointed to a Melvin Matibag as a "lead convenor (sic)" and RJ Echeverri (sic). Inquirer reported that it is not clear if she was referring to Rico Judge "RJ" Echiverri, son of Representative Enrico Echiverri.
"These are spontaneous expressions, we have nothing to do with them and there is also no directive from us to stop or control them because they are expressions of the sentiments of the people," Coloma explained.
In a seperate report by GMA News published on Tuesday, DBM Secretary Butch Abad clarified that the Liberal Party was also not involved in placing the ad.
